What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a system of medicine which has been practiced in China and other Oriental countries for thousands of years. Acupuncture is now recognised as an effective form of medicine here in Britain. Some people come to acupuncture as their first choice of health care while others find it beneficial alongside other medicine or following different treatments.

An acupuncturist will gently place fine needles into the surface of the skin. This treatment will stimulate change along the channels of energy which are distributed throughout the body. The aim is to encourage the patient's own energy to return to health and balance - ill health being a fundamental state of imbalance.

Acupuncture treats both the presenting symptom and the underlying cause. It treats the whole person with their problems and not just the symptom or condition in isolation. It is the strength of this combined and holistic approach which can help to encourage significant change.
